Fender clean in a small package

Leon,
Check out Daddy's Junky Guitars website. They got a couple of Hot Rod Deluxes fairly cheap.
I run across a Music Man 210 Hd but like I have said before I shy away from older amps except Peavey and Kustom they seem like tanks.Nut even then they have to be in real good shape.
FYI I lake old pre Fender Sunn Beta-Lead too. Cant find those at all anymore.

Leon,
concerning the Düsseldorf-ebay-link ... if you're in doubt now you'll be always considering how a PTP DR would be sounding instead ... :?
I see your point being sticked to the vintage DR ...
Go over the pond ...

:?
See what I mean. This beatifull 68 alu trim Deluxe reverb as sold over the pond for 1500 USD, thats about 1060 Euro. That's less than I have to pay here for a RI

But if I would go over the pond and had bought that DR, the 1500 USD would have become 1700 or so including shipping, 1800 USD including Dutch import tax, and 2160 including the Dutch Value added tax, so the result: 1530 Euro :( .

OK Boys,

Tried a Deluxe Reverb RI last weekend. Tonewise I'm convinced :D. A little doubt is left concerning clean volume in my band. Perhaps it's loud enough. At gigs I have the amp next to me at close distance and aditionally some guitar comes over out of my personal floor monitor.

But, as I said earlier, I'll have to make space before I buy a new amp :? . Hard choice, but I have put my silverface Pro Reverb for sale :(. Didn't play that one for a few years, and I also have a Blackface Pro Reverb.

I'm looking forward to a Deluxe Reverb. It's one of the missing links in my "collection".

Leon,
72-78 Pro reverbs are selling for $1200-1800 USD here.I always keep an eye on those gems. I keep looking for a steal. $1200. is a too steep for what i will pay for one. afford or not. If I was going to spend that type of money on a amp I would buy a Sewell or a Sewell desgned Paul Reed Smith amp.

Also the wife gave me the riot act.If I get anything else something has to go. My Tokai, extra stuff, pedals ect... and a Berhringer and frontman amp would have to say.Bye Bye.

I am still wanting to stay small, after I got my Valve Junior mini stack I have GAS for little class A or AB, ever since. Maybe a Fender Super Champ XD or Bugera V22 or Blackstar HT-5 S might be my next toy. I tried all 3 last weekend. I like the Blackstar the best.

Guys,

Until we get another apartment, I'm done with amps. A nice 2XEL84 class a would be nice. I've got 5 that can pretty much cover any territory.

Guys,

I thinkt I just joined the holy club of Deluxe Reverb owners.

I sold my Pro Reverb (I think) and bought a Deluxe Reverb (I think). I'll pick up the amp next week.

I'll let you know if I like it :D

Leon

BTW Chris: I think that 2xEL84 is, for low volume clean tone, the best there is. Tried a lot of these amps. For me always somewhat to short on clean headroom. A Dutch manufacturer, Koch, now has a small amp with 4xEL84. Very nice!

Picked up my Deluxe reverb RI yesterday.

Fantastic sound :D.

It's used and the price was low becourse the amp (just a few months old) was already repaired by Fender two times :? . Now it seems it's OK. But if not I'm pretty sure I can repair it better than the Fender Boys. 8).

And one of the reasons it sounds so good: trying to find the problem the former owner changed all preamp tubes to TAD tubes :D . I've heard the stock tubes can be very bad so, as far as preamp tubes is concerned, that problem is solved.

Always trying to get things better, so I took a look at the power tubes  They are Electro Hamonix with a GT sticker on it. I have many amps, and have heard many power tubes, but the Elecro Harmonix are among the worst :( .

I think I'll try them a while and then try some other power tubes (any suggestions?).

But, again, it already sounds very, very good.

Leon,

Congrats. I hear good things about the Winged =C= tubes. I am using some NOS Sylvanias and they sound great. RCA's are the best in there but one of mine has gone microphonic. I like the grey plates from the 70's with orange writing. As far as preamp tubes go, it's all RCA 7025 and 12AX7's, 12AT7's. IMHO there is no better tube for pre. I've tried almost every NOS tube around and the RCA's just sound perfect. V2 and V4 are the most important tubes effecting the sound. The DR I tried in the store sounded pretty great just as is. I have no idea what the tube setup was but I'm assuming it was all stock. It seems like older amps are more sensitive to the tubes used. Today's amps are designed with what is available and currently being produced. My Boogie is back to the tubes it came with albeit I found them new. They are Chineses 6L6 STR 420's and Chinese pre's. I rolled with RCA's, GE's etc. and went back to the original tubes. I found a guy that had a supply of 420's and bought 2 set for like 40 bucks. They totally blow away the JJ's I bought. Go figure. Also remember that none of the TADS, Winged =C= are made by them, they are just selected more carefully and tested. Too much hype surrounds newer tubes because there are really only about 3 prime manufactures. BTW, no amp like pedals more than a Deluxe Reverb. I don't use them much but my friend bought ove a new Digitec Hardwired Valve Distortion yesterday and we were playing it all day through the DR. The amp doesn't influence the pedals sound at all which is really nice.

Calling Chris en Chet, the Deluxe reverb RI experts :D

Took my amp the the band rehearsal this evening. Pleasant surprise: Loud enough.

I'll have to make some adjustments to my pedalboard. I have too much highs using my TS9 and SD9 now.

But, ths DRRI sounds very good.

Just one "problem" (OK, not a real problem, but I think its weird).

The volume of the DRRI operates very smooth between 0 and 4. Than, from 4 to 5 there is a very big increase in volume. From 5 up it's smooth again. It's very hard to get the right volume (for me 5 is too loud and 4 is not loud enough).

Do you guys have the same problem.

Leon,
Later Deluxes in fact most newer Fender amps have that issue the Volume pot will jump on you when you get to 4-6. Hot Rod Deluxes and Devilles are the worst but Its All. Heres the things you might do: Spray Contact Cleaner on the pot. Let it dry then spray a small amount of silcone spray. See if that might work.My Behringer modleing amp had the same problem and that did the trick.
The other thing is change the pot :?
You guy are giving me GAS for a Fender Deluxe RI, Hot Rod maybe even a Peavey Classic 30.

Friend of mine has a Deville with the same problem.I noticed it at GC a few weeks ago but at the time I didn't think much of it.

Leon,

I don't have that problem but, mines from '72. I could be totally off base but maybe it's the powere tube (6V6's). Maybe those Russian tubes hit some type of sweet spot at those volume levels. One thing is for sure, you'll nevr suffer from not enough highs. I just bought a Zoom H2 and will make some recordings for Dec and Ray. I'll post and you can hear my DR.

Chris,
Fender has been having a pot issue for a while on newer amps. A lot of people don't notice but some do.I was told that by a amp guy.
They aren't smooth and sometimes you have a hard time setting them. Mexi Deviiles are the worst of all. But most of the time if you lube the pot it solves the problem. That sounded pornographic :?

Used my DRRI for the first time on a gig. What a fantastic sound. Didn't miss my old Twin reverb at all.

I use a volume setting between 4 and 5, the amp stays very clean, and I use my pedals (mainly an original TS9 and SD9) for lead.

I put my DRRI wedged just near my floor monitor. If it's not loud enough I just turn it up in the monitormix.

So, one thing is sure: A DRRI can sound fantastic (if you change the stock tunes 8) ).

Completely happy ? :D
No, I'm afraid :? .

I doubt this amp is very reliable :(.

The power transformer gets very, very hot. I know it's a known issue with these amps. But mine is getting very hot. After an hour the amp smells like burned plastic. It's so hot it's not possible to touch the transformer. After I switch off the power, the transformer stays hot for more than 30 minutes (I'm prepaired for the new ice age 8).

Leon,
Ouch!-Heres the bad thing use The DRRI as the main amp and have another amp as back up.
If you are going to do that you might as well use the Twin. :? Thats what you were trying to get away from.
Maybe you can repair the transformer issues w/o breaking the bank.
With the transformer getting that hot , are contributing to global warming?
Considered a Dr.Z or Sewell/PRS? A lot of the country guys here when they can afford it go with Sewell/PRS,DrZ,Matchless is that order.
If I could justify it I would buy a Sewell Texaverb or a PRS Sweet 16. with time, price and ablity I just cant justify it.

I am curious gig with the country band?
