Fantastic guitar, I bought one secondhand a "few" years ago my SG1500 is earlier with the serial number 39126 and looks exactly like the above, gorgeous cherry sunburst dot inlays. I would pay well over the odds if mine ever went missing, only cost me £250 back in 1992. I love it.

Thank you, I think I just got to that stage where I wanted to know a bit more about my "back breaker" hehe.
Anyhow, I had the rear cover off last night and was just looking around and noticed that the aluminium pots are quite corroded within the body cavity, but the solder connections are still fine, is this something that needs to be dealt with i.e. should I worry?

Cheers Derrick...

Hi,

This is my first post here, and i just recently discovered the Yamaha SG's.

This resultet in me purchasing a SG 1500. Or so it looks like.

It's got the 1 binding headstock, but i don't recognise the tuners from any other SG.

Of course this has been modified, and re finished.

And my intend is to try and bring it back to it's original state.

Supposedly it's from 79' i will post the serial shortly.

The question is, is this really a 1500.......

I wont receive it for another week or so, and then i can take some detailed photos. And read the serial.

Not the best pics i know.

Does anyone know how to get hold of a set of pickups for this.

On the back of the headstock it says.
Made in Japan, Serial 001746.

Hi,

and first of all welcome at Japenaxe :D

Based upont the seriel number I would say 1977.

If it's a real 1977 SG1500 there should be a 3-piece neck (I think it can't be seen at the prictures so you'll have to wait).

The tuners are not original I'm afraid. Show us some more pictures when it arrives.

Perhaps you found it already but there's a lot of information on SG1500's earlier in this topic.

Hi Leon,

Thanks for the welome.
Yes indeed theres a lot of good info here.

I intend to use the guitar mainly in the studio, so it's important to me that it stays in tune.
I thought the tuners weren't original, and so i ordered some sperzel locking tuners.
Might as well put on some good ones...

Also ordered some black Marshall speed knobs, and i have a set og Suhr humbuckers i'm gonna try.
But i'd really like a set of yamaha SG 3000 pickups for it, but they are hard to get.
Anyway, it should arrive next week, and the i'll take some more detailed pics.

Hi Axeman,

First of all welcome at Japanaxe.

About your SG1500: The serial number would indicate 1977. The pickup number starting with 53 would indicate 1978. So just pick a year 8)
